FAQs

Wedding Photography FAQs

Do you require a deposit and a contract?

Wedding investments are divided into 3 installments. The first installment is the date reservation fee, the second installment is due is 6 months before the wedding, and the last installment is due 1 month before your wedding. A contract is also required, and a model release is requested.

* If booking Wedding less than 3 months away, 50% date reservation fee due at booking, and remainder due 30 days prior to Wedding date.

Do you charge sales tax?

By law, I am required to charge sales tax on tangible items. Our local & state tax is a combined tax rate

California State. 6%
Monterey 0.25%
Salinas 1.5%
Monterey County Local Tax SI 1%.
Monterey County District Tax 0.5%

9.25%. Total

California Department of Tax & Fee Administration:

Portrait, Wedding, and other Noncommercial Photography
Generally, tax applies to the sale of photographs sold in tangible form for noncommercial use. The sale of related items and services rendered to create or produce the photographs will also be taxable.

Noncommercial photography includes taking and selling photos for a customer's private use, such as engagements, weddings, portraits (for example, baby, school, etc.), and for fine art prints.

When you provide your customer photographs in a tangible form, such as prints, slides, etc., or as a digital image on a tangible storage medium (for example, DVD, flash drive, CD, etc.), tax generally applies to your entire charge, which may include charges for:

The physical product you transfer to your customer;
Labor and services involved in producing or creating the photograph; and
Reproduction Rights associated with the photograph (such as licenses, copyrights, royalties, etc.).

We want to book...what next?

After you pay the date reservation fee and contract signing, you are all set. Our next step is to plan your engagement session. I will suggest locations and help you style wardrobe options. I love a local destination session and it is a great way to make your engagement photos special and unique. It is also a great way to connect with you and your story. You can see how I work, and I can help you become comfortable in front of the camera.

Do you take indoor photographs?

For weddings I shoot in and outdoor, and use flash as well as other artificial lighting.

Are you involved in our wedding planning process?

I will work close with you or your planner and vendor team to create a photography timeline that suits your big beautiful day. I remain readily available to you throughout the planning process if you need me. Some clients prefer no interaction with me until the wedding day. I get it, however it is not ideal, in order to capture photos with deep emotion, and connection, it helps a great deal when I have established a connection with you and your vision for your day.

What if we need to reschedule our wedding date?

Life happens, and I completely understand. If you have to reschedule your wedding date, I would be happy to do so based on availability. If you reschedule in the same calendar year there will be no charge. There will be an additional 15 % charge per calendar year added.

When will my photos be ready?

I know how exciting it is to get a glimpse of those photos, which is why I love to provide highlights within 3-4 days post session. All photos are delivered via an online gallery with high resolution images for proofing. Your completed gallery will be delivered within 8-10 weeks. Turnaround time may differ by up to 2 weeks during peak seasons (graduation, wedding, holidays, etc.)

How many photos will we receive?

For weddings, you can expect to receive about 40-60 images per hour of coverage wedding. I always choose quality rather than quantity. I will choose the best and most significant photos to curate your gallery and tell your story.

How do you edit your photographs?

I do edit my photographs. My style is not "light & airy" nor "dark and moody". I would describe my style as natural, timeless, and my photographs "look how the day felt". My intention is to capture your emotion, sentiment, and passion without altering or distorting your essence, or the essence of our surroundings on the day of your engagement session or wedding. I do enhance light, shadow, color, and will occasionally “Photoshop” the distracting stand of hair etc. I do not alter physical features but do correct blemishes and whiten teeth if needed.

What kind of equipment do you use?

I shoot with a Canon R6 for digital images and I use prime and zoom lenses. For film photography,I shoot with a Pentax 645n & a Canon 1V. I also love to take fun shots with a HOLGA camera. I always have a backup. I will use a flash and artificial light when needed for night shots and indoor weddings.

A little extra for you Alana:

Making getting ready fun & memorable!!

I added the link here for your convenience. I just want to make sure you know, I am not affiliated with Shein, and I did not take this photograph. I have however purchased these in several different colors. They are SO cute, and although they are relatively inexpensive, they do not no look or feel low quality. I would buy them again.

Thoughts on Wedding Planning...

Take your time, choose vendors & artist you connect with. Make your day your own...and have FUN!!! This is a beautiful time in your life and you should enjoy it, not stress over it!!! If you can, hire a planner, month of, week of, or day of coordinator. You will not regret it. Keep the DYI to a minimal. Although DIY is beautiful, you don't want to spend time setting anything up or taking it down or relying on the people you want to have fun with to do that "stuff" either. On your best day ever...you want to focus on your LOVE as the day unfolds. Make time for the special moments your photographer wants to capture for you. I am 100% certain when you see beautiful imagery...the timeline was purposefully planned out to make those moments come to life. When you make time for the safe shots...you leave room for creativity. Wedding days FLY by, so enjoy every moment. When all is said and done your photographs are a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone.

Cheers to you and your future together! 🥂
