Do you require a deposit and a contract?
A 50% non-refundable date reservation fee is required when booking portrait session. A contract is also required, and a model release is requested. Final payment is due 7 days prior to our scheduled session. Keep in mind when we sign a contract, the time of day expressed in the contract is tentative. We will schedule the exact time of the session a few days before so we have a somewhat accurate forecast for outdoor sessions.
**your date is not secured until you have paid the date reservation fee
Do you charge sales tax?
By law, I am required to charge sales tax on tangible items. Our local & state tax is a combined tax rate
California State. 6%
Monterey County Local Tax S 1%.
Monterey County District Tax 0.5%
California Department of Tax & Fee Administration:
Portrait, Wedding, and other Noncommercial Photography
Generally, tax applies to the sale of photographs sold in tangible form for noncommercial use. The sale of related items and services rendered to create or produce the photographs will also be taxable.
Noncommercial photography includes taking and selling photos for a customer's private use, such as engagements, weddings, portraits (for example, baby, school, etc.), and for fine art prints.
When you provide your customer photographs in a tangible form, such as prints, slides, etc., or as a digital image on a tangible storage medium (for example, DVD, flash drive, CD, etc.), tax generally applies to your entire charge, which may include charges for:
The physical product you transfer to your customer;
Labor and services involved in producing or creating the photograph; and
Reproduction Rights associated with the photograph (such as licenses, copyrights, royalties, etc.).
We booked...what next?
After booking, the first step will be to plan your session. I will suggest locations and help you style wardrobe options. I love a local destination session and it is a great way to make your engagement photos special and unique.
Do you take indoor photographs?
I primarily shoot outdoor for portrait sessions. If you prefer indoors, and have a place that provides great natural light, I certainly would be happy to accommodate that request. For weddings and elopements I shoot in and outdoor.
What if we need to reschedule our session?
If it is raining, too cold, or too windy, we would need to reschedule. However don’t be afraid of on overcast day, the light is actually nice! We could brave through the elements but it is a bit of a challenge to have photos that appear relaxed and natural when the outdoor conditions aren’t suitable. If you need to reschedule our session, I will be happy to do so with at least 7 days notice and our reschedule date will be based on my availability.
What should we wear for our portrait session?
This is the of one of the most important questions, you will want the memories your hang on your wall to look their best. What you wear for your session is so important and I can not stress that enough. It sets the tone for your session.
Contact me so we can talk more about what you envision, and I can make some specific recommendations for you.
How many photos will we receive?
For a portrait session, you will receive 60-100 edited images based on the package you have chosen. I always choose quality rather than quantity. I will choose the best and most significant photos to curate your gallery and tell your story.
When will my photos be ready?
I know how exciting it is to get a glimpse of those photos, which is why I love to provide highlights within 3-4 days post session. All photos are delivered via an online gallery with high resolution images for proofing. Your gallery will be ready for you within 4 weeks of portrait session. Turnaround time may differ by up to 2 weeks during peak seasons (graduation, wedding, holidays, etc.)
How do you edit your photographs?
I do edit my photographs. My style is not "light & airy" nor "dark and moody". I would describe my style as natural, timeless, and my photographs "look how the day felt". My intention is to capture your emotion, sentiment, and passion without altering or distorting your essence, or the essence of our surrounding on the day of our session. I do enhance light, shadow, color, and will occasionally “Photoshop” the distracting stand of hair etc. I do not alter physical features but do correct blemishes and whiten teeth if needed.
What kind of equipment do you use?
I shoot with a Canon R6, prime and zoom lenses. I always have a backup. I also LOVE to bring my film camera with me for those unique moments.
*I am licensed in Salinas, Monterey, and Carmel, and can photograph in any public location that is not a start park or beach. If you are interested in a state park or beach location, let me know and I would be happy to look into the permitting cost. It has been a while since I have had a session at any of the local state parks or beaches, and permitting typically runs approximately $200.
